Trainer Desleigh Forster will give Sydney-bound mare Poste Restante a dress rehearsal wearing blinkers at Eagle Farm on Saturday week ahead of her Summer Cup mission at Randwick.
Forster is pressing ahead with the G3 Summer Cup (2400m) at Randwick on Boxing Day with Poste Restante who took her record to five wins from 19 starts with a narrow victory over 2100 metres at Eagle Farm last Saturday.
Poste Restante gave her connections a huge scare when she had only a half-head to spare over Trajet in an 2180-metre Open Handicap.
Jockey Michael Cahill told Forster the four-year-old mare was going to win by a handsome margin before she got to the front.
"Michael thought she was going to win easily but when she got to the front she wanted to wait for the others," Forster said.
"She wouldn't win in Sydney on that performance but I'm hoping blinkers will make a world of difference.
"She's still going down for the Summer Cup but I want to run her in blinkers first so she'll go around in a Benchmark 95 race over 2100 metres next start.
"I'll only give her one run in Sydney then she'll got out for a spell and come back for the winter carnival."
Poste Restante has now won three of her four starts for Forster who continued her great strike rate by landing her 13th winner from her past 25 starters.
Poste Restante was originally trainer by Howard Matthews in New Zealand who was a keen onlooker at Eagle Farm.
"The owners decided to keep her here with Desleigh after the carnival," Matthews said.
"They couldn't see much point her going back to New Zealand and racing on all the wet tracks when she doesn't appreciate them."
