starlinTrainer Desleigh Forster is confident two significant gear changes can help Starlin find his best form when the gelding tackles the Encore Signage Systems Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

Starlin, a son of Starcraft, began his career with Gold Coast trainer Maryann Thexton but after two starts was transferred to Forster before he had a short campaign two years ago with Peter Moody in Melbourne.

Starlin will wear a cross-over nose band for the first time along with a tongue-tie when the five-year-old attempts to win over 1350-metres for the second time in his career.

"I've used a tongue-tie on him before but it's the first time I'm trying a cross-over nose band," Forster said.

"I'm pretty sure he raced with a crossover nose band when Marryann trained him.

"I thought he's been opening his mouth too much in work so hopefully the crossover nose band will help him.

"I took the blinkers off him for the start of this campaign but they're going back on now that's he's got the crossover nose band on."

Starlin was ridden by apprentice Anthony Allen when he fifth to Startsmeup in a 1350-metre Class Six at Doomben on August 4.

A winner of four of his 23 starts, Starlin will again have the services of an apprentice, with Forster opting for Rosie Myer's two kilogram claim this time.

"His last run when fifth to Startsmeup was a pretty good effort," Forster said.

"He was probably out of his grade a little taking on Startsmeup."

Forster has always had a good opinion of Starlin and recommended sending him to close friend Peter Moody in Melbourne after he had just one start for her when third at Caloundra in May, 2010.

"He had three starts for Moody and won his maiden down there but he didn't measure up so he was gelded and sent back to me," Forster said.

"I also thought he might stay and so did (jockey) Damien Browne but we've changed our minds and we think he's purely a sprinter."

Meanwhile Forster is looking forward to stable stars Adebisi and Easy Running returning to her stables next week to prepare for the summer carnival.
